Rafael Hornero, alias El Niño, linked to the Samuelillo gang, remains intubated, admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Móstoles and guarded by Police Units. At half past six in the morning this Saturday, Hornero appeared at the medical center, wounded with five gunshots, after being abandoned by four other members of his same organization. “They have shot me,” Hornero said before losing consciousness.

According to the Police report, this incident is related to a shooting that occurred shortly before, at 5:20 a.m., on Ronda del Sur street, in Puente de Vallecas, near number 101. Apparently, someone witnessing the events called emergency services after several shots were fired in the area. This same person told the officers that after the shots, they saw a man lying on the ground with blood around him, as the officers were able to verify shortly after. Thus, the man was put into a black Mercedes by several companions. Together in the vehicle, they fled.
Minutes later, that same vehicle was seen at a gas station in Moratalaz. The police presence pushed the Mercedes occupants to desperately escape. A chase took place on the M-40 highway heading south of the Community of Madrid, where they finally managed to lose sight of them.
The investigation is trying to confirm the correlation between both events while Rafael Hornero remains admitted to the ICU. Hornero is a well-known figure to the agents and state security forces and has been arrested for burglaries in luxury stores. He has also been accused of kidnapping and being involved in drug trafficking crimes.
