The Madariaga awards have been held since 1995 by initiative of the Association of European Journalists, with the collaboration of the Representation Offices in Spain of the European Commission and the European Parliament, under the sponsorship of Iberdrola. Their purpose is to highlight the work of journalists from Spanish media who have contributed to improving knowledge of European integration and community policies, in any of its categories of print press, radio, or television.
By associating the award with the figure of Salvador de Madariaga, the APE wanted to highlight his advanced Europeanist vocation, which brought a Spanish voice to the first forums of the League of Nations and the Council of Europe. The awards, endowed with 15,000 euros in each category, will be presented at a ceremony to be held on June 18 at the Paraninfo of the University of Cervera (Lleida).
