The National Police arrested a man this Saturday for his alleged involvement in the death of a woman who was found early in the day lying in the middle of the street in the Madrid district of Carabanchel with a severe head injury. According to police sources, they had a relationship, so it could be a case of gender-based violence.
The events occurred around 7:30 a.m., when the National Police received a call alerting them to the discovery of an unconscious woman lying in a public place, according to a police statement. Officers from the Citizen Attention Group (GAC) went to the scene and assisted the victim until the arrival of medical services, who could only confirm the woman’s death.
As the investigation progressed, officers located a man at the victim’s residence near the scene, who was arrested as the suspected perpetrator of a homicide.
Agents from the Violent Crimes team (DEVI) of the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade and from Homicide Group V also went to the scene and took charge of the investigation into a possible case of gender violence.
So far in 2026, 17 women have been murdered due to gender-based violence in Spain. Since official records began in 2003, 1,362 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners.
