A fire in Castellví de la Marca (Barcelona) forces the confinement of four residential areas

A forest fire declared this Wednesday afternoon in Castellví de la Marca (Alt Penedès) has forced the preventive confinement of the population of four residential areas while the Generalitat Firefighters work to stop the advance of the flames. A total of 33 ground teams and eight aerial units are participating in the fire extinguishing tasks, which started shortly after four in the afternoon in the Castellot area. Until six in the afternoon, the fire has affected eight hectares of forest area and so far the flames do not affect any urban center or homes.

Civil Protection has requested the preventive confinement of Pla de Manlleu, La Moixeta, Les Pinedes Altes, and La Talaia Mediterrània, located northwest of the fire and where about 170 people reside. The alert has also been disseminated through an Es-Alert message.

The Firefighters initially focused their efforts on closing the tail of the fire, where the work has yielded effective results. However, the fire’s evolution has become complicated due to a change in wind direction: the head and right flank have opened towards the northwest. In the early stages of the fire, some secondary spots had also been detected.

The evolution of the flames has also forced the Mossos d’Esquadra to close two secondary roads in the area, the TV-2442 and the TV-2443. The emergency operation is taking place on a day especially complicated for mobility in Catalonia due to numerous trips related to this Wednesday’s solar eclipse. The forces continue working on the ground and from the air to contain the advance of the flames and prevent the wind change from widening the fire perimeter.
