A 73-year-old German woman died this Sunday afternoon while swimming at the Rubina beach in Castelló d’Empúries (Girona), making it 22 bathers who have died this summer on the Catalan coast, according to Civil Protection. The emergency phone call was received at 16:14, when it was reported that there was an unconscious person on this beach. The lifeguard service pulled the woman out of the water in cardiorespiratory arrest and resuscitation maneuvers were performed.
The Medical Emergency System (SEM) mobilized four ambulances and a medicalized helicopter, but nothing could be done to save her life. The Mossos d’Esquadra also dispatched two patrols to the scene and took charge of the proceedings.
