Concrete was one of architect Teodoro González de León’s preferred materials. With its hardness, he achieved majestic buildings that remain a magnificent legacy on the streets of all Mexico. “His architecture gave a lot of dignity to many of the spaces in the Mexican state,” explain his professional colleagues Felipe Leal and Mauricio Rocha on the 100th anniversary of his birth and 10 years after his death in this episode of Al habla.

The Guanajuato congress, the Tomás Garrido Canabal park in Villahermosa, the Colegio de México and, above all, the National Auditorium, are some of the works the architect sculpted. Buildings constructed with enormous and minimalist concrete blocks that allowed Mexico to reclaim public space. “He was a character who had clarity and an understanding of the history of pre-Hispanic culture. Esplanades, horizontal planes that lead you from one point to another. But also of colonial culture, which is also an important part of our history, where patios and porticos are fundamental,” explain the architects, who have gathered a group of colleagues to pay tribute to González de León.
