The Coahuila Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of Chad N, a 35-year-old American citizen, who is accused of triple homicide and attempted kidnapping of a minor in Saltillo, the state capital. The former police officer was apprehended by Mexican authorities as he was about to cross the border in Piedras Negras, an important city right across from Eagle Pass, Texas, after having killed three relatives of his ex-partner, Litzy Mora, who was injured in the shooting when she tried to take their son to the US. The Public Ministry said this Thursday in a statement that the man faces charges for his probable responsibility in the crimes of femicide and qualified homicide.
According to information from local authorities, Chad N, a former soldier who belonged to the Marine Infantry Corps and a war veteran, went this Tuesday to a house located in the Espinoza Mireles neighborhood where Mora, 26, was, due to a family conflict over custody of the minor, who is reported to be three years old. After arguing, the accused allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at those present. Ana Laura de León Morín, 44, and mother of Litzy; Laura Mora, Litzy’s sister, 23; and Emanuel Montero Gómez, 44, who was the partner of both mothers, died at the scene due to gunshot wounds.
According to the police report, Litzy was shot in the head region. She underwent surgery and remains hospitalized in serious condition, with a guarded prognosis. After the shooting, Chad N took the minor and fled to the northern part of the state in a truck with US plates. Through an operation with the support of surveillance cameras, along with elements of state security forces, military, and the US Customs and Border Protection Office, between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. on the same day they managed to intercept the shooter as he was about to cross the checkpoint to Eagle Pass. The minor was rescued unharmed and placed under the care of the Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Families.

Investigations indicate that the detainee had a restraining order in the United States for alleged domestic violence, which prohibited him from having contact with his son and ex-partner. Likewise, Federico Fernández, head of the Coahuila Prosecutor’s Office, has revealed that the former police officer from the municipality of Lockney, Texas, was prohibited from carrying firearms due to these same facts. According to the same authority, Chad N had remained in the state for at least several days prior to the attack.
