The National Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for recording 146 people, mostly women, with infrared cameras “in moments of intimacy” near the Las Moreras river beach in Valladolid. The individual is accused of crimes against privacy and corruption of minors, as among the victims, compiled in 94 files, there are also girls under 18 years old. The arrested man recorded women “in underwear or naked in moments of intimacy or personal hygiene, both in bathroom settings and in public spaces,” according to the police statement. The man had a criminal record for similar incidents in 2022, and when he was detained, two mobile phones, two wireless infrared cameras, and two external batteries were seized. The accused appears in six of those sequences manipulating those devices and checking the shots.

The officers identified him on September 6, at four in the morning of that festive night in Valladolid due to its patron saint celebrations, trying to hide near the city’s river beach, where many young people go to drink or spend the night. There he “took images of women in moments of intimacy.” The technological devices he carried were confiscated, and the specialized unit in these cybercrime-related offenses analyzed their content and revealed that there were 94 files on both phones, 89 on one and five on the other, and that a total of 146 people were identified “in what appear to be moments of intimacy, both in underwear and naked.”
“The vast majority of the people appearing were women, and there were also images of minors,” the press release notes, emphasizing that these recordings were made “in private bathroom settings as well as in public spaces.” The analyses revealed that three of those files were recorded shortly before he was identified by the police. The investigation confirmed his probable involvement because “they observed how on six occasions the alleged perpetrator appeared and went to where the cameras were hidden to manipulate them and thus correct the image focus shots.”

The tracking of the collected images and the evidence of the crime led the National Police to arrest the suspect on March 16, accused of crimes against privacy and corruption of minors. The 36-year-old man was brought before a judge and released, obliged to appear before the judge when required. So far, two of the 146 victims have been identified and located, and both have expressed their willingness to file a personal complaint about the events. The arrested man has a record for similar incidents because in 2022 he was accused of another crime against privacy: “On that occasion, the National Police officers arrested him after being caught at the Valladolid Fair facilities during the Comic and Manga Fair recording a young woman while she was inside the women’s restrooms.”
