At 79 years old, Cher has learned that she is the grandmother of a 15-year-old girl. The singer’s youngest son, Elijah Blue Allman, continues to surprise. A few days ago, the artist requested custody of her youngest son, 49, from her relationship with Gregg Allman, who is admitted to a psychiatric center due to his mental health problems and after committing several crimes. For several years, the guitarist has faced addiction problems that have led him to suffer overdoses on more than one occasion. Precisely in June 2025, the actress’s son was hospitalized for drug abuse, and it was then that he revealed a big secret to his mother: that he had a daughter in 2010.

In an exclusive with The Sun, the former model and mother of Cher’s granddaughter, Kayti Edwards, has revealed that she had a brief romance with Allman in 2010. That same year she became pregnant and gave birth to Ever, who is now 15 years old. Last year, after the musician’s overdose, the Believe singer decided to confirm what her son had confessed to her and verified the news through a phone call. “Cher contacted me in June last year and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” Edwards tells the publication. “She told me Elijah had told her something about it back in 2021 — when he suffered another overdose — but she didn’t know if it was just nonsense. When she heard the news, she was speechless,” she reveals.
Kayti Edwards, also 49, lives in California with her four children and husband. She and Allman were friends for several years before becoming romantically involved. “Elijah and I spent the night together and I got pregnant. He always knew from day one, but he never wanted to be a father,” she tells the British newspaper. “He would come to visit us, every couple of years, but just to say hello.”
It was in 2021 that the rumor that Allman had a daughter began to spread, after, also in the midst of an overdose, Cher’s son confessed to his then-wife Marieangela King that he had a daughter. “This is what sparked the rumors in the family,” she assures. “Then he sent me a text message saying he wanted to apologize.”
A little before the 2025 overdose, Allman sought out Edwards. “He came back into my life recently. I hadn’t heard from him, but he asked if he could come to Joshua Tree — where she lives — because he needed to get away from Hollywood. As soon as he got out of the car, I knew he wasn’t well,” she says. “A few weeks later he overdosed and was hospitalized, and that’s when Cher contacted me. She wanted to know what had happened and asked if the Ever story was true. That’s when I had to tell her the situation,” she explains.

Although shocking, learning she was a grandmother was good news for Cher, who wanted to meet her granddaughter. Last September, the singer invited Edwards and Ever to her home in Malibu: “We went to the house and stayed overnight. She was lovely and kind, and we had dinner together,” she tells The Sun. “Cher asked Ever if she wanted to see her closet and showed her some jeans she had worn at a concert. It was a great experience for her. They played in the pool and she talked to Ever about school and asked her about boys,” she says.
The former model has assured that, although Cher “is still processing the news,” she and Ever are building a relationship. “Cher sent her a Christmas card and gift. And then, for her birthday, she sent her money and a Chrome Hearts tracksuit. She called her and they talked on the phone. Cher is trying very hard,” she assures. The reason Edwards didn’t approach Ever’s grandmother sooner is because “Elijah and his wife always said Cher didn’t want to be a grandmother and to keep Ever away,” she explains. She adds: “I was nervous about introducing her, but it has been a wonderful experience.”
For Ever, the news that Allman is her father and Cher her grandmother is also new. “He wanted to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn’t in a condition to do so. She thought he was just a family friend. I had to protect her from him, and when he gets better, she will appreciate it,” Edwards explains. “Cher is also very protective of Ever and the family dynamic, and she knows Elijah’s condition and wants to protect her too. He needs to go back to being the boy I knew, and Cher agrees. We need him to get better,” she says about Allman, who is awaiting trial where he faces charges of trespassing, robbery, and assault.
