Let’s not kid ourselves. Alberto Núñez Feijóo is the far-right, because he behaves as if he were: existence is essence. He paves the way for it. He introduces it to good society and teaches it to kiss ladies’ hands. He agrees on his programs with it. He legitimizes it. He is the one who makes pacts with it in the provinces, so that he doesn’t get infected, but his Guardiolas do. He enthrones it wherever he can, to see if they pay him with the same hard Sevillian coin and insert him into La Moncloa, his sole passion.
Feijóo is not Juanma Moreno, nor Marcelino Oreja, nor Íñigo Méndez Vigo, nor Miguel Herrero de Miñón, nor the Gil-Robles tribe, nor Adolfo Suárez, those people of the center and the right who deserve respect. Some, much affection. He does not raise his voice when the (presumed) genocidal prevents Catholic mass at the Holy Sepulchre at Easter, he does not join the Pope in his protest. And then he will want to receive communion when the Pontiff comes to Spain.
He does not protest if Donald Trump and his henchmen murder peaceful citizens in Minneapolis. He never said anything against Viktor Orbán’s or Giorgia Meloni’s anti-immigrant excesses, and even less now that he pretends to be anti-Trump. He never finds a way to show solidarity with the Palestinians, or the pensioners whose votes he haggles over in social shield packages, nor with the bombed Iranian women, he only used them by appealing to the burqa —non-existent in Spain—, to argue that international law is at the bottom of the list.
He is only interested in beheading Sanchismo. Perhaps that is the only understandable thing, because that way he would fulfill the great motto of “get out of the way so I can take your place.” There is no hint of the Nicomachean Ethics in his positions, which are inane, late, or both. No trace of Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations. No trace of Teresa of Ávila or Saint John of the Cross. Nor of Luis Cernuda, Jaime Gil de Biedma, or T. S. Eliot. Nor of Castelao, Celso Emilio, or Méndez Ferrín. Nothing authentically Galician or even cosmopolitan. Nothingness.

Why this quick sketch? Because to boycott regularization and promote the exploitation of immigrants, he labels them as criminals, as if they were his friend, the drug trafficker boss Marcial Dorado. Because he signs, through Guardiolas, the principle of national “primacy” against the poor who arrive, as that one did with anti-Jewish laws, as the mad magnate does, as dictators usually do.
It is the most serious thing that has happened in years. “Primacy” or “national preference” is the negation of the equality enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the EU Treaty, and the Spanish Constitution. Enshrined in the despicable motto America First, meaning before anyone else; or in the repugnant assertion Deutsche über alles, above all; or in the idiotic idea of Spaniards or nothing, it is the mother of all xenophobia, the beginning of any indignity, the germ of all dictatorship.
