Five people have been detained and several have been injured on the morning of this Sunday after a collision between a drug-running speedboat and a Civil Guard patrol boat on the coast of Adra (Almería). This collision occurs amid the offensive by the Junta de Andalucía, led by the popular Juan Manuel Moreno, who is demanding more resources to fight drug trafficking following the conclusions of the annual report from the State Attorney General’s Office, which has warned about the rise in violence among clans in the community.

The Almería Civil Guard Command has confirmed to EFE that the collision between both vessels occurred, although they have not provided details about the detainees or the number of injured, all among those arrested. According to various versions gathered by the news agency, the latter could range between two or three, and at least one of them is reportedly admitted to the ICU of the Poniente University Hospital.
The incident has prompted a reaction from the Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC). Its spokesperson in Almería, Víctor Vega, lamented the incident, recalling that the crash took place in the “same place where a colleague from the Customs Surveillance Service died.” He also demanded “resources both legislative, in equipment, and personnel” and warned that there is an “escalation of violence” in the area due to the entry of cocaine and the establishment of “mafias from the East and South America.” A situation that, he warned, could lead to the use of “war weapons” such as rocket launchers.

Their request is similar to that made by the Chief Anti-Drug Prosecutor, Rosa Ana Morán, who, in an interview on Canal Sur, emphasized that Andalusia faces a “structural” problem in the fight against drug trafficking, marked, among other factors, by the lack of material and human resources. In this regard, the prosecutor has called for the creation of specialized courts in organized crime precisely for this purpose.
On this same Sunday, the president of the Junta stressed the threat of drug trafficking on his social networks. “The State Attorney General’s Office is warning: drug trafficking is expanding in Andalusia and violence is increasing. When will the National Government reinforce the resources? The situation is extremely serious and a strong and immediate response is necessary,” he demanded on his X account.
This latest collision occurs a few weeks after about ten drug traffickers aboard a drug-running speedboat fired on Civil Guard agents who were pursuing them in a patrol boat, before being arrested on the coast of Huelva. This province has precisely become one of the territories where drug trafficking activity is increasingly greater and more violent. Last May, during the Andalusian election campaign, two civil guards died when two vessels from the Maritime Service of the Huelva Command collided while pursuing another drug-running speedboat.
