Few hours after Enrique Riquelme shared this Wednesday his first major proposal to address the presidency of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez presents his candidacy at the Hotel Melía Castilla to continue as the top executive of the white club. The Madrid businessman, 79 years old, succeeded Lorenzo Sanz in July 2000, when he promised the signing of the Barcelona player Luis Figo if he won the elections. Six years later, Pérez left the position and took a three-season break away from Santiago Bernabéu. He returned in 2009, when, in his second term, he signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká, Benzema, and Xabi Alonso, among others, all at once. Now, after 17 uninterrupted seasons as president, 24 in total, Pérez faces the polls for the second time, since since the elections held in 2000, the same that elevated him to the presidency, only one election has been held, that of 2006, won by Ramón Calderón.
