José Mourinho got serious this Thursday about Raúl Asencio’s sporting future at Real Madrid. “A Madrid player is one 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 12 months a year. Everything you do outside the professional area continues to be Real Madrid, damaging the prestige of a club that is untouchable. I am not happy. Everyone makes mistakes, but accumulated mistakes are something different,” said the Portuguese coach after it became known that the defender had been convicted this summer in Gran Canaria for a traffic safety offense because his breath alcohol level (0.90mg/l) almost quadrupled the allowed limit (0.25). This Thursday, moreover, the defender was also going to be tried for sharing a non-consensual sexual recording of a minor and another 18-year-old woman, for which the Prosecutor’s Office is asking for two years, six months, and one day in prison.

The club has opened a file on him, Mourinho detailed, and for now Asencio remains injured (he has not debuted yet). “He will continue like this for at least two more weeks [the club expected him to have already returned to normal work]. This helps me stay out of this problem,” the coach responded when asked if this situation would affect his future within the team and if he would count on him when he recovers. “What defines well my way of reacting to this is that a Real Madrid player is one 24 hours a day,” he insisted ahead of Friday’s away match against Betis.
The Portuguese described the defender as “an exemplary professional at Valdebebas.” “No one trained more and better than him when he was well. And now, injured, he is the first to arrive and the last to leave,” he commented before clarifying that the accumulation of mistakes beyond the sports city is now a serious problem for him.

Eight months without a driving license
Asencio underwent a preventive breathalyzer test in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday, August 16, in the tourist municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, south of Gran Canaria. By exceeding 0.60 mg/l, the administrative offense became a traffic safety crime and, three days later, in a quick trial, he admitted the facts and received a four-month fine with a daily fee of 120 euros —14,400 euros in total— and the withdrawal of his driving license for eight months.
An incident that adds to a much bigger problem that has been following him for three years. The Prosecutor’s Office is asking for two years, six months, and one day in prison for him, as well as a fine of 100 euros daily for 24 months and compensation of 10,000 euros for two crimes against privacy, for sharing a sexual content video of two women —one 16 years old and the other 18— who were unaware they had been recorded having sexual relations in June 2023 with three Madrid youth players, already disassociated from the club. Asencio, who was not present at the sexual encounter, is charged with a crime of revealing secrets in concurrence with another of child pornography: he allegedly received the video and showed it to a third party knowing it had been recorded without permission, that the affected parties had asked for it to be deleted, and that one of them was a minor.
