Leganés, a Segunda División club, has announced the signing of international forward Álvaro Morata on loan from Italian Como, where he played last season. Morata, 33, returns to Spanish football after his stint with AC Milan, Turkish Galatasaray, and Como itself. Previously, after his time in the youth teams of Atlético de Madrid and Getafe, he joined Real Madrid’s youth setup, where he made his elite debut, and after a loan at Juventus and a return to the white club, he played for Chelsea, Atlético de Madrid, and Juventus.

The player thus joins Rubén Albés’ team on loan for the current season, with a purchase option at the end of it, according to both the Madrid club and the Italian club. “With more than six hundred matches and over two hundred goals as a professional, one of the best Spanish forwards of recent decades arrives at Butarque,” said Leganés at the beginning of the statement.

Álvaro Morata has accumulated twenty titles in his career, including a European Championship as captain in 2024 and the Nations League in 2023 with the Spanish national team, two Champions Leagues (2013-14 and 2016-17), two Spanish leagues (2011-12 and 2016-17), two Copa del Rey trophies (2010-11 and 2013-14), and a Club World Cup (2017), all with Real Madrid. Morata made his professional debut in 2010 with Real Madrid and joined the first team in 2013. At the end of that season, he signed for Juventus Turin, where he won two consecutive Scudettos (2014-15 and 2015-16).

In 2016 he returned to Real Madrid and started a new stage at Chelsea (2017-2019) for a season and a half. He returned again to the Spanish league, this time at Atlético de Madrid (2018-2020), was loaned again to Juventus Turin, and in 2022 returned to the red-and-white club; later he played for Milan, Turkish Galatasaray, and finally Como.
The Italian club led by Cesc Fàbregas confirmed the player’s departure in a brief statement. “Como 1907 announces the loan, until the end of the season, with an option, of forward Álvaro Morata to Leganés,” it said. This closed the departure of the Spanish player, who arrived at the Lombard team in August 2025 from Milan and signed for a season without prominence and without goals in his league.
The Madrid forward immediately joined training under Rubén Albés and will wear number 21.
