The far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella was the most voted in the first round of the Colombian presidential elections, with 44% of the votes, closely followed by the left-wing candidate Iván Cepeda, with 41%. Barely one and a half points separate them, and they will compete for the presidency in a tight second round on June 21.

The result reverses the order of 2022, when Gustavo Petro’s left led the first round. On the map shown below you can check the results, municipality by municipality.

Each point in the following charts is a municipality. The vertical axis measures the candidate’s vote in the first round of the 2026 elections; the horizontal, the vote obtained by the predecessor in 2022. The diagonal line marks the point where both coincide: above it are the municipalities where the candidate improves the result from four years ago; below, those where they got a lower percentage of the vote.

The data show that Cepeda seems to inherit Petro’s vote and expand it: he is above the diagonal in more than 80% of the municipalities. De La Espriella also grows compared to Hernández, but seems not to pick up all the 2022 right-wing vote. When compared with the sum of Hernández and Gutiérrez, most municipalities fall below the diagonal.
Valencia is the opposite case. Gutiérrez was the third most voted candidate in 2022 but Valencia remains at 7.5% and falls below the result of his predecessor in almost 90% of the municipalities.

The vote inheritance draws an asymmetric second round. Cepeda starts from a broad base spread across the territory, an extended version of Petro’s electorate. De La Espriella has captured most of Hernández’s vote, but not Gutiérrez’s, and that difference marks the municipalities where he has room to grow.
