Social media is no longer so fun for Martin Scorsese’s youngest daughter, Francesca (26 years old), from his marriage to Helen S. Morris, the director’s current wife. Until recently, the trained actress with a budding career was mainly known for helping her father promote his films in some fun videos on her TikTok, but her relationship with the platforms is now far from good. The reason? Offensive comments from some users about Francesca’s physical appearance, especially since it became known that she will be part of the cast of the second season of the Prime Video series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, information confirmed by the media outlet Deadline on May 19.

In response, the actress posted a message on her TikTok profile (where she currently has more than 446,000 followers) last Saturday, May 23. In a video, looking at the camera in a very close and almost defiant shot, Francesca Scorsese responded to the insults and attacks she has been a victim of. “It contains some of the worst comments I have seen about me,” she says about the content of the attacks. And although she admits she is very aware of her privilege as Martin Scorsese’s daughter and is used to criticism for being “the daughter of a well-known person,” she is also surprised by the level of hate she has received this time. “I get it. I know doors have been opened for me. I keep trying, I keep working hard, with passion, creating and doing my job,” she says in the video about her acting career, adding: “But I think if you spend your time watching other people’s videos and looking for negativity, you are a very, very sad person.”
She says she has been insulted by being called “fat” and “ugly,” compared to the piglet Peggy, and even called a “refrigerator.” “I get it, I’m not the prettiest girl in the world. I’m not the thinnest in the world. I’m a bit chubby, I know. But who the hell cares?” she asks those who have attacked her with such cruel insults, encouraging them to go outside and look at the people around them: “Damn, look at your mother, your sisters,” Francesca says, highlighting body diversity.

The daughter of the director of classics like Taxi Driver and Goodfellas explains that she had already deleted her profile on the social network X because it was a toxic place, and argues that TikTok is on its way to becoming something similar: “There are so many trolls, so many bots and people who just dedicate themselves to trying to ruin someone’s day or make them feel awful.” And although she says she is fine, she warns: “These kinds of things are what make people lose their lives; it’s as if your words had great power.”
