Maritime Rescue personnel in Italy are searching for the Spanish businessman Juan José Mutilba, 66 years old, who fell from his boat last Tuesday in the sea between the coast of Sicily and Greece, family members of the missing person told Efe. His wife was traveling with him at the time of the incident and drifted for three days until she managed to call for help.

Sergio Mutilba, son of the missing man, specifies that his father ―retired since 2021― devoted much of his time to sailing with his wife. According to him, they both set off on their boat on Monday from Syracuse with the goal of reaching the city of Pylos, in Greece.
The family members recount that on Tuesday morning the businessman caught a tuna, slipped on the fish’s blood, and fell into the sea. The woman, they point out, “did not know how to react,” tried to call emergency services, but there was no signal and the boat drifted away from the accident site and continued adrift. Three days later, on Friday, she managed to get coverage and call a family friend, an expert in navigation, who contacted Maritime Rescue of Spain, and they were the ones who communicated with Maritime Rescue of Italy and Greece.

Greek personnel managed to detect the boat with the woman and tow it to Pylos (Greece). Since then, the search remains active, according to family members of the businessman, who have also reported the incident and requested help from the Spanish embassy in Rome.
