
Since 2018, EL PAÍS has documented more than three thousand victims of pedophilia in the Spanish Catholic Church. It has compiled their testimonies in six reports, and has just delivered the latest one to the Vatican and the Episcopal Conference. The Church has provided neither explanations nor reparations to those who suffered these abuses. The Spanish Government has opened an office to assist them, but the big unknown remains Rome: Pope Benedict XVI delegated to the Spanish bishops. Now all eyes are on Leo XIV to see if this time there will be a different response.
