In the Name of Marta, the Netflix miniseries inspired by the Marta del Castillo case, began filming this Tuesday in Seville. Produced by Bambú Producciones (The Asunta Case) in collaboration with La Claqueta PC and with the support of Marta del Castillo’s family, the miniseries stars Blanca Portillo, Vicente Romero, Verónica Sánchez, María León, Paco Tous, and Hugo Welzel, among others.
This six-episode fiction narrates the real events of the case that occurred in 2009 and its media impact. Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old girl from Seville, disappeared after leaving home to meet Miguel Carcaño. In a few hours, what seemed like a teenage getaway turned into a national tragedy. What follows is a nightmare for her family: contradictory versions, false confessions, a body that never appears, and a justice system that, despite the convictions, never manages to offer solace.
The series reconstructs everything from the initial investigations, the changes in Miguel Carcaño’s and his accomplices’ versions, the media trial, the incessant search for the body, and the family’s public struggle to prevent the case from going unpunished.
The platform already successfully addressed the case in 2021 in the form of a documentary miniseries with “Where is Marta?”, which reviewed what happened in three episodes. Family members, friends, and police, among others, offer their opinions on a case that remains unsolved.
