In his fourth participation in the Andalusian election campaign, the President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, has boasted about the management deployed over the last eight years. “We are the Government of solutions,” he said at a rally in support of the socialist candidate for the presidency of the Junta, María Jesús Montero, in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) where on July 15 the fence separating this municipality from Gibraltar will be removed. It was the central event of the PSOE over the weekend at the midpoint of the campaign, marked by the death of two civil guards on Friday in an operation against drug trafficking. Montero criticized the PP for trying to use the tragedy and toughened the tone, linking the “corruption of the PP” to drug trafficking.
The rally began with a minute of silence in tribute to the two civil guards who died last Friday on the coast of Huelva. Sánchez expressed his “deep recognition to the State security forces and bodies who risk their lives to guarantee security.” The socialists suspended the campaign last Friday after the death of the two agents when two boats from the Maritime Service of the Huelva Command collided. Sánchez’s event was scheduled for yesterday, Saturday.
No minister attended the funeral mass held this Saturday in Huelva, where the Government sent the Secretary of State for Security, Aina Calvo; the Director General of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González; the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández; and the deputy government delegates in Huelva and Cádiz.
During Sunday’s event, the socialist candidate, María Jesús Montero, harshly criticized the President of the Junta and PP candidate for re-election, Juan Manuel Moreno, for “trying to cash in on the tragedy.” The socialist candidate referred to a video distributed by Moreno of his presence at the funeral: “Enough of political opportunism and using misfortune to tell lies.”
Montero urged to “give explanations as to why the corruption of his party is permanently associated with drug trafficking,” referring to the case of the masks involving more than 40 PP officials from Almería. The socialist also mentioned the relatives of the mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, who “has still not explained where those 12 million in assets came from, knowing that her husband and stepson were involved in the drug business.” She also alluded to the photo of Alberto Núñez Feijóo with the Galician trafficker Marcial Dorado.

Claiming the Gibraltar agreement
In La Línea, the head of the Executive claimed the agreement on Gibraltar. “After hundreds of years, we have managed to tear down the last wall remaining in the European Union,” Sánchez said, for whom the agreement between the United Kingdom, Spain, and the European Commission “creates a space for shared development, guarantees freedom of movement, and protects the rights of 15,000 workers” who cross the fence every day.
The President of the Government has proudly highlighted the management of the MV Hondius cruise ship crisis docked since this morning in Canary waters. According to him, the Government “is doing what it has to do, with scientific and technical rigor and absolute transparency, with institutional loyalty and international cooperation” to protect the citizens on the cruise. “The world is watching us again and Spain will respond up to the level of what this great country is. It is a pride to be Spanish because Spain always delivers.”
In passing, Sánchez also criticized the visit of the Madrid president Isabel Díaz Ayuso to Mexico: “She tried to give history lessons and ends up causing embarrassment.”
During the rally, the socialist candidate was interrupted a couple of times by two metalworkers from Navantia, who denounce blacklists in hiring. Both workers have staged a 28-day sit-in at the public company’s factory in San Fernando.
