Taylor Swift is the most listened-to artist in Spotify’s history, with Bad Bunny as number two, according to a statement released this Thursday by the company. While Blinding Lights, by The Weeknd, and Un Verano Sin Ti, by Bad Bunny, lead the song and album charts, respectively. It is the first time that the most popular music streaming platform —with more than 700 million users— has compiled lists of the most listened-to artists, songs, albums, podcasts, and audiobooks since its founding on April 23, 2006, in Stockholm (Sweden).

Both Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny have dominated the top 5 spots on Spotify in recent years. But the American takes the crown (for now) by topping the ranking. They are followed by the Puerto Rican, Drake, The Weekend, and Ariana Grande. Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Eminem, and Kanye West complete the top 10, with J Balvin in 15th place.
In the songs section, the most listened-to track is Blinding Lights, followed by hits such as Shape of You, by Ed Sheeran; Sweater Weather, by The Neighbourhood; Starboy, by The Weeknd and Daft Punk, and As It Was, by Harry Styles. The song Die With A Smile, by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, closes out number 20 on a list where there is no Spanish-language track. Something that is surprising due to the “upward trend and continuous dominance of Spanish-speaking artists for many years now,” as mentioned recently in an interview with this newspaper by Spotify’s Director of Music for Southern and Eastern Europe, Melanie Parejo.
As for albums, Un Verano Sin Ti by Bad Bunny leads the ranking, accompanied by titles such as Starboy by The Weeknd, or ÷ (Deluxe), by Sheeran, showing a combination of styles in the last decade where pop, reggaeton, and hip-hop set the pace. The works Sour, by Olivia Rodrigo, and After Hours by The Weeknd, complete the top 5 of a list of 20 that includes Lover, by Swift (8); Future Nostalgia, by Dua Lipa (11); Mañana será bonito (Bichota Season), by Karol G, or YHLQMDLG, by Bad Bunny (15).
The report also highlights the consolidation of the podcast format within the platform. The most listened-to program is The Joe Rogan Experience, followed by Gemischtes Hack and Crime Junkie. Two Mexican podcasts are among the most listened-to in history: in tenth place is Relatos de la noche of horror stories, and in 15th place is the comedy program La Cotorrisa. The Brazilian Não Inviabilize occupies the 12th position.
On the other hand, audiobooks are experiencing a significant boom, with best-selling titles such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas, or The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, by J. R. R. Tolkien. While in ninth place is The Housemaid (La asiestenta), by Freida McFadden; in 11th place Britney Spears with her autobiography The woman in me (La mujer que soy); in 12th place A Game of Thrones (Juego de tronos), by George R.R. Martin, and in 18th place, Sapiens, by Yuval Noah Harari.
According to the company, these lists have been compiled from data accumulated over years of listening by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. And they bring together content that “not only triumphed at the time, but has endured over time to become part of the daily lives of millions of people.”
