A partial closure will modify the transportation routine to the east of Mexico City. From Saturday, September 12 to Wednesday, September 16, Line 12 of the capital’s metro will operate only on the section from Mixcoac to San Andrés Tomatlán in both directions. The measure implies the total suspension of train passage in nine stations of the elevated section, which will remain closed in order to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance work, as announced by the authorities.
The reasons for the partial closure of Line 12 and the works to be carried out
According to a statement from the Collective Transport System, a series of technical tasks will be carried out focused on the replacement of the track change device 13-23, between the Periférico Oriente and Calle 11 stations. The device allows the trains to change tracks, redirecting them towards Mixcoac or towards Tláhuac, specifically in cases where provisional services are established, according to the Metro statement.
To ensure optimal operation on the section from Periférico Oriente to San Andrés Tomatlán, specialists will replace 140 wooden sleepers with concrete pieces, place 300 cubic meters of new ballast, and carry out the rectification of 600 linear meters of track alignment and profile.
Additionally, during the closure period, the geometry of the tracks and the calibration of the expansion devices will be verified. The service interruption is necessary to clear the way for special vehicles that will transport supplies from the Tláhuac workshops to the work site.

Closed stations, schedules, and support service with RTP
The section that will be without circulation covers the stations Tláhuac, Tlaltenco, Zapotitlán, Nopalera, Olivos, Tezonco, Periférico Oriente, Calle 11, and Lomas Estrella. The interruption will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12 and will remain active until the end of the day on Wednesday, September 16.

The usual service along the entire Golden Line will resume on Thursday, September 17 at its usual schedule, that is, from 5:00 a.m., with train runs from Tláhuac to Mixcoac, and from Mixcoac to Tláhuac.
During the closure period, the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) will support users with units that will make alternate routes from Tláhuac to the stations San Andrés Tomatlán, Culhuacán, and Atlalilco, with return circuits. Additional travel options include the Constitución de 1917 terminal (Line 8) for trips from the eastern zone, and the Tasqueña terminal (Line 2) for the southern zone.
Operational background on Line 12
These preventive works occur more than two years after the full reopening of Line 12, following repair work after the tragic collapse of a train while running from Tezonco station to Olivos on the night of May 3, 2021.
Metro authorities have urged the public to anticipate their travel times, considering that the suspension coincides with working days and patriotic holidays.
