The Popular Party reproaches the Prime Minister for exonerating Morocco from the Ceuta crisis and looking for culprits elsewhere, after having pointed to Russia, Israel, and the “far-right international” for spreading the rumors that caused the massive entry. “He just needed to blame Franco,” ironized the PP spokesperson, Borja Sémper, on Monday at the press conference following the meeting of the popular leadership committee. The PP is simultaneously pressuring the Government for the King to visit Ceuta as soon as possible. If Alberto Núñez Feijóo were governing, the popular spokesperson emphasized, “he would be about to go” with Felipe VI to Ceuta.
The Popular Party accuses Pedro Sánchez of falling into “conspiranoia” by pointing to these actors as amplifiers of the Ceuta crisis, and reproaches him for exonerating Morocco, which they at least point to as being aware of the massive crossing, although they do not directly accuse it of having perpetrated an attack against Spain, in a calculated balance with the neighboring country. “Does anyone believe that 80,000 people can move through a country and enter another country illegally without the country of origin knowing?” Sémper asked in reference to Morocco. “Can anyone believe that 80,000 people traveled through part of Morocco and the Moroccan Government didn’t know?” he insisted. “Sánchez has many doubts, but he only has two certainties. That Morocco has no responsibility and that the blame lies with Russia, Elon Musk, Israel, rumors, fake news, and the far-right international. This conspiranoia should worry us all,” he complained. And he concluded, referring to Morocco: “Obviously there are responsibilities. What we demand from the Government is that it exercises its own and, if possible, does not take us Spaniards for fools.”
The PP reproaches Sánchez for his “delicacy” with Morocco and his “harshness” with the people of Ceuta, and mocks his theory that there was a “wave of disinformation” originating from “Russia, Israel” and “a far-right international” interested in using immigration to attack Spain and divide Europe. “The Prime Minister says his Government is investigating what happened, but he already exonerates Morocco emphatically and accuses a far-right international. It would be enough to run away if what we are hearing were not so serious. He just needed to blame Franco. Everything seems to be subject to investigation except one thing in this crisis: the responsibility of the Government of Spain,” Sémper complained.

Meanwhile, once Sánchez announced today that the King will visit Ceuta, the PP, which had already urged the monarch’s trip, is pressing for it to happen as soon as possible. “If Alberto Núñez Feijóo were Prime Minister today, he would accompany His Majesty the King to visit Ceuta. With the pride and duty required. And the conviction that the presence of the highest authority of the State is important,” emphasized the PP spokesperson. The Popular Party does not believe it is necessary to wait for the legislative elections in Morocco on September 23, but rather advocates that the visit be immediate. “His Majesty the King has the perfect right and legitimacy to go anywhere in the Spanish geography whenever he considers it appropriate and the citizens demand it. The citizens of Ceuta will feel comforted with the King there,” Sémper stressed. “If Alberto Núñez Feijóo were governing, he would be about to go to Ceuta with the King,” the PP leader specified.
