The Prosecutor’s Office has closed the last two cases that remained open regarding the complaints filed about the failures in breast cancer screenings in Andalusia. Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office consulted by EFE have confirmed that all fifteen complaints, which had been promoted by the association El Defensor del Paciente, along with individuals, and the political groups Izquierda Unida and Adelante Andalucía, have been closed, as reported by the newspaper Ideal.

At the end of last March, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the provincial delegations of the public ministry had closed two complaints from Granada, the same number from Jaén, Seville, and Almería, and a ninth examined in Málaga.
In February, the Superior Prosecutor’s Office of Andalusia had closed three complaints related to possible failures in the Andalusian breast cancer screening system against public officials with parliamentary immunity, as no evidence of a crime was found, and referred the cases to the provincial prosecutors’ offices for individual investigation.
Last December, the Seville Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that it had agreed to close the investigation into the alleged disappearance of medical evidence in the Andalusian Health Service after verifying the integrity of the data.

Asked about this matter in the Andalusian Parliament, the federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, pointed out that, regardless of the judicial procedures, the breast cancer screening crisis was the “biggest scandal” in Andalusian public healthcare, and that for this reason his coalition focused on the political responsibility of the Junta.
On the same issue, the deputy spokesperson of the Socialist Group in Andalusia, Ángeles Férriz, criticized the “total opacity” of the Andalusian Government, which she said chose to “attack, threaten, insult, persecute, and even try to sanction” those who promoted the public complaint of the case from the Association of Women with Breast Cancer.
