Less than a month before the start of the World Cup, the head coach of the Colombian national team, Néstor Lorenzo, presented the preliminary list of 55 called-up players from which the 26 players who will travel to North America for the international tournament will be chosen. Although the preliminary list is only a provisional document required by FIFA from the participating teams, Lorenzo has decided to publicly present the pool of players he has ahead of the World Cup a few days before the start of the training camp in Medellín.

According to the regulations of the highest international football authority, the list of 26 players that will make up the final squad must be submitted before June 1, and only players who are part of the preliminary list can be included. Therefore, the 55 chosen have generated great interest.
The preliminary list is made up of players who have formed the backbone of the team since the World Cup qualifiers, such as captain James Rodríguez; Lucho Díaz, one of the most disruptive and in-form wingers in the world; defenders Johan Mojica, Jhon Lucumí, Daniel Muñoz, as well as other regular starters for Lorenzo like Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias, and Richard Ríos. There are also young players seeking a spot on the final list, such as Néiser Villarreal, Jordan Barrera, or Juan Manuel Rengifo.

The team will say goodbye to the country with a friendly match against Costa Rica on June 1 at El Campín in Bogotá before traveling to North America, where they will face their last preparation match against Jordan on June 7 in California. Lorenzo’s squad will debut in the World Cup against Uzbekistan at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on June 17.
