Two women drowned this Sunday afternoon while trying to rescue a three-year-old boy who had submerged in the Baños de Cerrato dam in Venta de Baños (Palencia). The Castilla y León Emergency 112 service reported that the deaths occurred at 18:35 this afternoon at this spot, very frequented by river bathers in the Palencia region of Cerrato, with a large reservoir area where dozens of people go during periods of high temperatures like those experienced in recent days in the province and throughout Spain.
The Castilla y León 112 switchboard received the alert that first one woman and then another had entered the Pisuerga to assist the child, whose survival has been confirmed by the Palencia Provincial Council, and that they were having difficulty getting out.
