The best sleeping bag
Rest is as fundamental at home as outside of it, which is why it is equally important to choose a good mattress as a sleeping bag for those getaways in the heart of nature. And there is no doubt that a good sleeping bag can make the difference between falling into Morpheus’ arms or not sleeping a wink all night. But beyond that, there are many features that make a difference depending on its use, which is why at EL PAÍS Escaparate we have analyzed four similar sleeping bag models to find the best value-for-money option on the market.

Which sleeping bags have we tested and how did we choose them?
The four sleeping bags we have chosen are in the same price range, which means that, at the same time, their features are very similar, although there are always small details that make the difference between spending the night in one or the other or carrying it on a summer hike. That is why one of the factors to consider has been the weight of each of them, something that can go unnoticed if we go by car, but not if the bag is going to be with us in a backpack.
We have also checked the process of opening them and, much more importantly, how easy it is to store them in their bag — a task that is not easy in most cases. Once unfolded, their measurements have allowed us to check what it would be like to spend a night inside each sleeping bag, thus assessing capacity and comfort, resistance, and waterproofness, among other aspects.
While it is true that these types of features are very important, functionalities are becoming more sophisticated and now it is not only valued that it has a good safety closure, but also details such as the presence of an inner pocket where we can store our belongings while we sleep, such as car keys, wallet, or mobile phone. For this reason, the four brands analyzed are: MalloMe, Bisinna, Swtmerry, and Active Era.
Why can you trust me?
I am a journalist specialized in product analysis and, in recent years, I have tested and compared dozens of devices and accessories for media such as El País. My way of evaluating starts from something very specific: understanding what a product really offers in relation to what it costs. Not only in punctual tests but also in everyday use, because that is where the details that make the difference are perceived. Beyond the specifications, I am interested in how it performs in practice, how consistent it is over time, and what limitations appear when you integrate it into your routine. Because, in the end, a good product is not the most eye-catching, but the one that best justifies its price day by day. That is the criterion with which I build each recommendation.
Which sleeping bag was the winner?
The MalloMe sleeping bag offers a perfect balance for sleeping outdoors with temperatures between 4.4 °C and 25 °C, with an optimal comfort temperature between 16.7 °C and 23.9 °C. If we add to this that it is waterproof, we start with a very versatile choice for different times of the year: spring, summer, and autumn.

To test this sleeping bag, we followed the same procedure as if we were camping inside a tent. We loved the ease of transport, but above all the weight and size. Just over 1 kg and a compression bag of 40 cm that can be reduced to 30 cm.
When getting inside it, we were pleasantly surprised by its dimensions, spacious enough for a person to sleep comfortably, as well as the good quality of its materials and finishes. We also checked the waterproofness of the outer layer, a Hex-Tech design with 3D synthetic fiber filling that provides the necessary insulation so that neither rain nor wind passes through.
Finally, it is worth noting that it is one of the lowest-priced sleeping bags, something that, combined with comfort, resistance, and functionality, positions it as the first on this list.
To improve: it does not include an inner pocket to store belongings.
Other alternatives to the best sleeping bag
Bisinna sleeping bag
One of the most complete models in terms of features is the Bisinna sleeping bag thanks to very useful extras such as a travel pillow, inner pocket to store the most valuable belongings while you rest, and a storage bag to facilitate transport.

Why did we choose it?
Its functional design goes beyond what we could imagine, allowing you to create a double sleeping bag by joining the right zipper of one and the left of the other. But there is more: if you are one of those who regulate body temperature through the feet, that is, by sticking a foot out of the bed, a zipper at the bottom allows you to free them easily if you are too hot.
Its adjustable hood is also appreciated, allowing us to especially cover the head for greater comfort and temperature when sleeping even in extreme conditions. However, it is slightly heavier than the best sleeping bag: the Bisinna bag weighs 1.9 kg and is also the most expensive of the four options in the comparison without offering anything particularly remarkable.
Overall, the Bisinna sleeping bag perfectly fulfills what it promises, from a hollow cotton filling that helps retain heat throughout the night to the ease of cleaning by simply putting it in the washing machine without worrying about the result.
To improve: it is not as light and is the most expensive of all
Swtmerry sleeping bag
The Swtmerry sleeping bag offers a good value for money while maintaining essential requirements such as waterproofness, lightness, and durable materials. A recommended option for people looking for an economical sleeping bag for occasional use at festivals, camping, or rural houses.

Why did we choose it?
This Swtmerry design is made with waterproof and breathable fabrics on the outside, such as nylon or polyester, among other materials, while the filling is 100% hollow cotton. Materials that make it suitable for sleeping in any of the four seasons, both in cold and warm climates, from 15 °C to 50 °C.
We also tested this sleeping bag in terms of practicality and it did not disappoint us. Its weight barely reaches 1.4 kg, a feature that makes it quite recommended for traveling with it on your back, making it one of the most chosen by adventurers.
When ranking the best sleeping bags, the Swtmerry one loses positions as it does not have an inner pocket and presents a less versatile thermal range than the other options we tested.
To improve: does not include an inner pocket and offers a lower thermal range.
Active Era sleeping bag
Definitely, the Active Era sleeping bag withstands the lowest temperatures, reaching down to -10 °C and being especially resistant to extreme climates thanks to the double layer of hollow fiber as filling. It is the best purchase for those who prioritize good protection against the cold.
Why did we choose it?
The first thing that catches the eye when opening this sleeping bag is its mummy design, that is, an ergonomic shape similar to the silhouette of the body that results in maximizing thermal efficiency. Its adjustable hood also contributes to making it the favorite for low temperatures.
Once inside, we were able to check how the insulating tube that runs along the zipper on the inside acts as extra insulation to prevent both cold and wind from entering the bag while we rest comfortably. However, it does not offer a sufficiently competitive balance compared to the other sleeping bags we tested that have greater versatility.
To improve: it is less versatile for mild climates or more general uses.
Frequently asked questions about sleeping bags
How to choose the best sleeping bag?
It is one of the most frequent questions when buying a sleeping bag: how to choose the best one for me? The most important thing is to be clear about what use it will be given, since it is not the same to go camping in summer as to sleep regularly in the mountains. Fundamental issues such as thermal range, weight, or type of filling come into play here. Other details such as the shape of the hood, the closure, or even the resistance of the materials must also be taken into account, especially when subjected to extreme temperatures or conditions.
How to make the most of a sleeping bag at home?
While it is true that the main function of sleeping bags is precisely to serve as a substitute for a bed, they also have uses beyond getaways and camping. In fact, they can be used at home as blankets or play mats for the little ones, giving them much more use than we ever imagined. Regardless of the use, it is always recommended to keep them aired and store them properly to keep them in good condition.
