300,000 kilos of fodder to supply livestock farms in the Madrid fires

Operation: save livestock farms. The Government of the Community of Madrid has prepared 300,000 kilos of fodder, distributed in 20 trailers, and has provided 10 water tanks of 1,000 liters to supply the livestock farms affected by the fire as soon as conditions allow access to them. So far, 14 farms have requested this support, which will benefit nearly 1,000 animals including cows, sheep, goats, and horses. The Sierra Oeste concentrates 13% of the total agricultural land area of the community.

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Sunday in statements to the media after accompanying the Kings to the reception point for residents evacuated due to the fires located in Villamanta.

Currently, 14 farms have requested this aid, which will benefit nearly 1,000 animals including cows, sheep, goats, and horses. Their attention and the need to facilitate access to agricultural and livestock facilities located in flame-free areas, while extinction efforts continued, has allowed access to these farms with all guarantees for people.

In order to guarantee the security of these properties and prevent theft, from today it will be mandatory to present a document proving ownership of a valid livestock farm ―such as the livestock booklet, registration in the General Register of Livestock Farms (REGA) or the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) application― to access farms where there is a restricted passage.

This measure responds to detected cases of impersonation of this professional status and aims to strengthen access controls to the areas affected by the fire, while guaranteeing the passage of owners and their mobility in safe conditions.

Likewise, several animals have been transferred to the Comprehensive Animal Shelter Center (CIAAM) of the Community of Madrid, while the regional Government maintains close collaboration with animal shelters in the affected municipalities to ensure the well-being of companion animals.

This measure is one of those that are part of the comprehensive plan for “unprecedented recovery” of the areas affected by the Sierra Oeste fire, along with the repair of more than 100 kilometers of roads, announced by Ayuso.
