A U.S. attack on Cuba would cause a “bloodbath with incalculable consequences.” President Miguel Díaz-Canel warned on Monday on social media what a Washington military operation could mean for the Caribbean country. The message, published amid increasing threats from the White House, comes hours after the Cuban government itself justified the acquisition of 300 military drones citing “legitimate defense.”

In his message, Díaz-Canel reiterated what was already discussed in a meeting with CIA Director John Ratcliffe last week in Havana, according to state media: “Cuba does not represent a threat, nor does it have plans or aggressive intentions against any country. It does not have them against the U.S., nor has it ever had them.”
During his brief stay in the Cuban capital, the head of the U.S. agency spoke with Ramón Romero Curbelo, who controls Cuban intelligence, and Lázaro Alberto Casas, Minister of the Interior. Both institutions oversee, among other things, the regime’s repression apparatus.

Over the weekend, the Axios portal reported that Cuba acquired more than 300 military drones. Regarding this, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated that the Caribbean country “defends peace and is prepared and ready to face external aggression in exercise of the right to legitimate defense recognized by the UN Charter.”
