A woman of approximately 35 years old was rescued by firefighters early Tuesday morning after falling into the Manzanares River from the parallel avenue, according to Emergencias Madrid. After the fall, from more than 10 meters high, she was taken in serious condition to a hospital with spinal injuries.
“We received a call at about one in the morning about a person who fell into the Manzanares River at number 44 Manzanares Avenue,” explained Madrid Fire Department sub-officer Jesús María González, who reported sending “a fire truck,” “a water rescue vehicle,” and “an articulated ladder” to the scene.

Upon the arrival of the Fire Department, the affected person was accompanied by National Police officers and a civilian who had reached the victim to accompany her. The woman fell on her feet from a great height, so she suffered a significant spinal injury and other injuries are not ruled out, which will be determined after hospital examinations.
The personnel proceeded with her rescue, which was complex due to both the location and the condition of the injury. The maneuver required an aerial ladder, a system that allowed the body to be raised on a stretcher preventing sudden turns that could worsen the woman’s condition. After the rescue, SAMUR-Civil Protection stabilized her and transferred her in serious condition to a hospital.
