The alleged corruption scheme of the Koldo case extended its tentacles to the other side of the Atlantic. A report from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) included in the file investigating the alleged fraudulent sale of masks to various government agencies details that businessman Víctor de Aldama used his “influence capacity” over Koldo García, former advisor to the former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, to try to do business in the Dominican Republic during the worst of the covid-19 pandemic.

The police document records several WhatsApp conversations between Aldama and García in which the former urges the latter in July 2020 for the minister to call the president of the Caribbean country [elections had just been held and Luis Abinader had been elected] to be able to do business. “Call (sic) the fucking president of DR that you have there a person who without knowing you at all has given everything and more.”
