The Israeli army launches new attacks against southern Lebanon
The Israeli army launched new attacks at dawn this Thursday against the city of Tyre, in southern Lebanon. In a brief message published on Telegram, the military announced bombings against alleged targets of the Shiite militia Hezbollah.
Israel announces the death of an Israeli soldier in the north of the country
The Israeli army announced this Thursday the death in combat of a 20-year-old soldier in the north of the country, amid renewed clashes against Hezbollah targets and attacks in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated in a communiqué released on Telegram that the soldier, Rotem Yanai, died during “an operation” in northern Israel and was part of the 435th Battalion of the Givati Brigade.
In the same incident, of which no further details were provided, two soldiers were injured — one seriously — according to the text, and were admitted to hospitals. Around twenty have died since the start of the offensive in southern Lebanon on March 2.
The Lebanon Emergency Operations Center, part of the Ministry of Public Health, reported on Tuesday that the cumulative toll since Israel began attacking the country on March 2 until then was 3,213 dead and 9,737 injured.
The Israeli army announced on Thursday that it launched new attacks against the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah in Tyre, a city in southern Lebanon, amid the intensification of its offensive in the area despite the ceasefire agreement between the two countries extended this month. Shortly after, it said that the Israeli Air Defense Forces intercepted “suspicious” launches from the southern Lebanon area where its troops operate.
Israeli forces published two mass expulsion orders against southern Lebanon on Wednesday. The first was for the city of Tyre, which has about 200,000 inhabitants, and was announced two hours before Israel began bombing it. “After the attack carried out early this morning by the U.S. Army against a point near Bandar Abbas airport (in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz) with aerial projectiles, the U.S. airbase, origin of the aggression, was attacked at 4:50 (3:20 in mainland Spain),” the Guard said in a statement collected by the Tasnim news agency, linked to the corps. “This response is a serious warning so that the enemy knows that the aggression will not go unpunished and that, if repeated, our response will be even more forceful,” the text adds.
Previously, officials cited by U.S. media said that U.S. armed forces had attacked facilities in southern Iran and shot down four drones launched against American ships, in an operation claimed as an act of “self-defense.”
Following this incident and before announcing the attack against the U.S. airbase, Iran reported that it had blocked passage through the Strait of Hormuz to four U.S. vessels, according to Tasnim. “Military sources indicate that, in the incident that occurred early this morning in Bandar Abbas, four vessels tried to cross the Strait of Hormuz without authorization and were forced to stop and return after warning shots from the Iranian Navy,” the cited media reported.
