The Generalitat announced this Friday that around 60% of the evacuated homes, after the sinkhole caused by the works of metro line 9 on July 7 in the Putxet neighborhood, will return to normal between next week and early August. Next week, residents of number 6 on Rubens street will return, and it will continue, during the first week of August, with residents of number 54 on Sant Gervasi de Cassoles. The remaining 40%, however, still has no forecast for returning to their homes.

The Government explained that the priority remains to guarantee the safety of the buildings before authorizing new returns, always maintaining the necessary caution. According to the Government, the Generalitat has already attended to all affected families and 90% of the files have been channeled through the assistance office created to cover the extraordinary expenses derived from the incident.
The delegate of the Generalitat in Barcelona, Pilar Díaz, accompanied by the general director of Mobility Infrastructures, Ramon Ramírez, specified, during the appearance, that the residents who will be able to return next week are those of number 6 on Rubinstein street, with 11 homes and 4 premises, and in the first week of August, the residents of number 54 on Sant Gervasi de Cassoles street will do so, with another 30 homes and one premise.
In parallel, the Catalan Executive explained that last week it held individualized meetings with affected merchants and has launched a new financing line from the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) aimed at facilitating the payment of rents and other usual business expenses.

Regarding the families who will remain outside their homes, the Generalitat has announced that next week it will detail the measures planned for this group. Among them, it is studying legal formulas so that tenants who temporarily suspend rent payments can do so without owners ceasing to receive rents. A specific device, together with the Conselleria de Territorio, will be created “to be able to carry out this management in the fastest and most practical way,” Díaz affirmed.
During the explanation by the Catalan Executive’s officials, a resident of number 55 on Sant Gervasi de Cassoles street, next to one of the impacted buildings, expressed her concern about the uncertainty regarding the ground conditions, especially for the winter period and heavy rains. Díaz insisted that decisions, for now, are focused on the coordinated return of the evacuated residents and, subsequently, they will be in charge of the evolution of the ground stabilization works and the construction of adequate technical reports.
