Barça closes its eighth summer signing: Tyrese Martin arrives from the NBA

Barça basketball already has its eighth summer signing. The Blaugrana club confirmed this Friday the incorporation of Tyrese Martin, an American forward who can also play as a shooting guard and comes from the NBA. The 27-year-old, 1.98-meter player has signed until June 30, 2027, so his link with the entity is limited, for now, to a single season.

With this operation, the new project led by Aleksander Sekulic continues to complete a squad that needed to be almost completely rebuilt after losing nine players last season. Before Martin, Josh Nebo, Olivier Nkamhoua, Agustín Ubal, Justin Robinson, Umoja Gibson, Stanley Umude, and Olek Balcerowski had already arrived, so the American closes, for now, the list of reinforcements in the exterior zone, pending a final move in the interior game.

Martin was born on March 7, 1999, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and before making the leap to university, he attended Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia. He played two seasons at the University of Rhode Island and two more at the University of Connecticut, a period in which he managed to shoot 43% from three-point range in his final year as a collegiate player. That journey led him to the NBA draft in 2022, where he was selected 51st by the Golden State Warriors, who immediately traded his rights to the Atlanta Hawks.

Since then, he has split his career between the NBA and the G-League, accumulating 181 professional games: 122 in the best league in the world and 59 in the development league. He debuted with Atlanta, but his most solid period came with the Brooklyn Nets, where he played 97 games under the command of Catalan coach Jordi Fernández. In the 2024-25 season, he was a regular part of the rotation, with averages of 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and two assists, in addition to 35.1% from three-point range in just under 22 minutes per game. His best night in the NBA was on November 27, 2024, against the Phoenix Suns, when he scored 30 points with eight three-pointers made out of ten attempts.

In his last season with the Nets, before being cut in February, his numbers dropped to 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 37 games. He closed the season with a brief stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played nine games with little prominence, and with only three games in the G-League wearing the Delaware Blue Coats jersey, in which he averaged 31 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.

From the club, they highlight his versatility to defend various perimeter positions, his rebounding ability, and his threat from outside shooting, in addition to his status as a non-EU player, a relevant aspect in the squad’s configuration.

Martin will now face his first experience outside the United States, in a squad that seeks to rebuild after a summer of profound changes and that could still close some additional moves before the start of the preseason.
