Carlos Sobera will host ‘Rueda la letra’, the game show with ‘El rosco’ on Telecinco

Since Mediaset announced that it had acquired the rights to Rosco to include it in a new contest for Telecinco, nothing more had been heard about that future new format. This Friday, news has finally been announced and that contest is already taking shape. It will be called Rueda la letra, and its central test will be El rosco which for more than 25 years was the culmination of Pasapalabra.

Rueda la letra, whose preparation is already in an advanced stage, according to the communication group, will be presented by Carlos Sobera, one of Telecinco’s main faces and experienced in various question and answer formats. The production will be carried out by the channel itself together with Bulldog TV, and will have Rafa Guardiola as director. Guardiola has a long career as a contest director, and was behind Pasapalabra on the channel for more than a decade, according to Telecinco’s press release. The expected premiere date for Rueda la letra, its mechanics, and the time slot in which it will be broadcast are still unknown.

The announcement comes a few days after Mediaset made public the intention of the Dutch production company MC&F to sue Atresmedia for the broadcast of AlaZ, the new final test of Pasapalabra. MC&F is the owner of the rights to Rosco, and considers that there are too many similarities between the tests for its broadcast to be legal after a ruling forced Antena 3 to stop broadcasting El rosco.

With AlaZ, Pasapalabra continues to be an audience leader on Antena 3, with figures similar to those of El Rosco, which remained on air for 26 years on Antena 3 and Telecinco afternoons. Telecinco also lost Pasapalabra due to a court ruling in 2019 and reached its audience low point in the regular season (September to June) this past June.

Rueda la letra, therefore, will mark the return of the iconic Rosco to Telecinco after the sudden disappearance of Pasapalabra from its schedule in 2019 by judicial order. In any case, and given the new lawsuit announced by Mediaset, it will still be necessary to wait to see how both Pasapalabra on Antena 3 and Rueda la letra on Telecinco will finally turn out and if both formats will be able to coexist on Spanish television.
