Four women have accused American actor and musician Jared Leto, an Oscar winner and leader of the band 30 Seconds to Mars, of having committed sexual violence against them in various forms when they were minors, including sexual assault and rape, use of explicit and inappropriate language, and threats. They have done so in a BBC documentary that will be broadcast tonight [Wednesday, July 29] and includes testimonies from two people who worked with the band. It is titled Jared Leto: The Dark Secret of Hollywood, and in it these women claim that the 54-year-old actor committed sexual violence against them between 2002 and 2016, when the actor was between 30 and 40 years old.
Specifically, one of the women stated that she suffered a sexual assault in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old, while another recounted that the Hollywood star threatened to sexually assault her when she was 19, after unexpectedly being left alone with him in a hotel room.
A third described having had sexual relations with the star in California when she was 17, which would legally be classified in that country as sexual abuse of a minor, and a fourth woman said she was manipulated by Leto, as the actor used his fame to make repeated calls with explicit sexual content when she was 16 years old.
The broadcaster claims to have seen photos and messages that support the women’s stories, as well as testimonies corroborated by friends and family.

Leto has had a prominent career since the 1990s and won an Oscar as a supporting actor in the film Dallas Buyers Club. His rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars, was formed in 1998 and is known for songs like The Kill, Kings and Queens, and This Is War.
The BBC states that it tried to contact the actor but he has not responded to the accusations.
