The video spread like wildfire on social media. The images had been captured from a vehicle on the A-7 highway as it passed through Marbella. And in them, it was seen how in another car, a high-end gray Mercedes driving on the same road, there was a couple having sexual relations in the driver’s seat. After the video went viral, the Guardia Civil started an investigation that has now culminated in the complaint against both the driver and his companion. Both have been sanctioned for negligent driving and not wearing seat belts.
The events occurred on June 22. A traveler in a vehicle on the highway takes out his mobile phone surprised, focuses on the rearview mirror, and zooms in. The phone’s camera captures how in a vehicle with the steering wheel on the right, the driver’s vision is blocked because a naked woman is straddling him. The car maintains a stable speed, although it sways from side to side. Shortly after, the person filming records another scene in which the woman, completely naked, sticks her head and arms out the window while the driver pays full attention to her, only occasionally looking at the road. The scene went viral within hours. And on Instagram profiles like Policía24h they wrote that “as a consequence of this, they put the rest of the road users at risk.”
The Guardia Civil decided to open an investigation. First, they identified the vehicle — whose license plate is clearly seen in the videos — and verified that it was a rental car. Then they identified the person driving it that day and the girl traveling with him. They were a couple of tourists on vacation on the Costa del Sol. Both have now been reported for the infractions of negligent driving and not using the seat belt as provided in the General Traffic Regulations. In both cases, the fines are 200 euros, reduced to 100 euros for early payment. The Guardia Civil, however, does not clarify whether the penalty for not wearing the seat belt applies only to the passenger or also to the driver, so the final fine for the events is either 200 or 300 euros. On other occasions, similar scenes have even ended with six-month prison sentences.

In the statement sent this morning by the Guardia Civil, the security force thanks “the citizen collaboration” in these cases and emphasizes that it is “increasingly common, which highlights the high degree of awareness in society and the growing social rejection of behaviors that endanger road safety.” They also remind of the availability of phone 062 “for any information you wish to communicate or collaboration you wish to provide in the field of road safety or for the commission of any criminal act,” where everything will be treated “discreetly and anonymously.”
