In the second half, Phil Foden warned, but it was Marmoush who managed to end Simeone’s team’s resistance and turn the match around in just two minutes, both goals assisted by Semenyo. In the first, the Ghanaian threw himself to the ground to prevent the ball from going out for a throw-in and gifted the equalizer to the Egyptian (min.57). The second, however, came with much more controversy. Neither the referee nor his assistants called an obvious offside on Semenyo, who got past Carlos Martín and set up Marmoush’s double (min.59). Simeone responded by making ten changes, including Rodrigo Mendoza’s substitution for Kang-in Lee. The South Korean, who played up front alongside Arnau Ortiz, had the chance to equalize, but it was Maresca’s side who scored again thanks to Ait-Nouri, who beat Salvi Esquivel, who came on to replace Jan Oblak (min.90).
