A taxi driver about 30 years old was shot dead this Tuesday in Azpeitia (Gipuzkoa) after being hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene. According to a brief statement from the Basque Department of Security, agents from Ertzaintza investigation units continue this Wednesday morning gathering evidence at the scene while police checkpoints have been established at various points in the mentioned town to try to locate the vehicle in which the shooter is believed to have fled.

The incident occurred this Tuesday afternoon near the Garmendipe football field in Azpeitia. Eyewitnesses say the taxi driver was driving his vehicle when he was hit from behind. Upon getting out, according to the same sources, he received at least two shots, one of which hit the taxi driver in the head.

The deceased is a well-known person in the town of Gipuzkoa (15,000 inhabitants). Local media report that in recent years he used to spend seasons in Ibiza, where he used to DJ in the island’s nightclubs.
