At least 16 people have died and another 28 have been injured this Wednesday in a bus accident on a road in southern Egypt, between the tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, on the shores of the Red Sea, the Ministry of Health reported.

According to the Reuters agency, the accident occurred early in the morning and about twenty ambulances arrived at the scene to attend to and transport the injured to medical centers.

The causes of the accident are unknown at this time. Accidents of this type are unfortunately frequent in Egypt, due to the poor condition of the vehicles and the recklessness of the drivers. According to EFE data, last year there were 5,829 deaths and 84,553 injuries in traffic accidents in Egypt.
