Woody Allen will begin filming his new movie in Madrid on October 5. The New York filmmaker will split his time between the city center and Aranjuez, in the south of the community. The movie, according to Wanda Visión (the film’s distributor), stars Alexi Wasser (Messy), Jemima Kirke (Girls, Sex Education), the so far only Spanish actor Peter Vives (El tiempo entre costuras, Velvet), Marton Csokas (The Lord of the Rings, The Equalizer) and Jakob Oftebro (Kon-Tiki, Hamilton).

The movie will be presented to the press on October 1 at one of the filming locations, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The film, which will premiere worldwide, will also be presented at an international festival and will have advance screenings in three international cities. Produced by Wanda Visión, Gravier (Allen’s production company) and 3Six9 Studios, it will be the 51st film written and directed by Allen.
The Government of the Community of Madrid, led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will sponsor Woody Allen’s new movie with 1.5 million euros as part of a campaign to promote the capital, according to the contract published on the CAM public procurement portal, which was awarded on October 24, 2025. The film, according to the document, has the provisional title Wasp 2026, although the agreement states that it must include the name Madrid. The amount will be divided into three payments. The first in 2025, of 150,000 euros; 600,000 in 2026; and 750,000 in 2027. The agreement includes a 26-month period for its completion, “which must necessarily be finished before December 31, 2027.”
The film also has sponsorship from the Madrid City Council. Between the two administrations, Woody Allen will receive three million euros, with the aim of promoting film tourism, encouraging “new flows of visitors interested in touring the locations that may appear in the film, and to establish Madrid as a desired destination internationally,” according to the Madrid city council.
Allen is considered one of the most relevant filmmakers of recent decades. He has directed 50 films that have portrayed cities around the world such as New York, Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Oviedo, and London. His latest film was Luck, released in 2023 and presented at the Venice festival.
