This Monday the delivery of the School Achievement Bonus began, a benefit aimed at students in primary and secondary education who have good academic performance in their schools and belong to the most vulnerable socioeconomic sectors of the country. The aid, which is given once a year during the month of September, has some requirements for access.

The bonus is part of the Family Ethical Income (IEF), from which the Chile Securities and Opportunities Subsystem is derived, a social protection system aimed at people and families in extreme poverty and vulnerability. People who are part of this subsystem receive support from the State through professional accompaniment; monetary transfers; and social services and benefits.
How to check with the RUT if the School Achievement Bonus applies
Users can check if they are beneficiaries through the official website implemented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family. To access the platform, the RUT (identity number) of the student or the person who collects the bonuses from the Securities and Opportunities Subsystem of the IEF must be entered, as well as their date of birth.
What is the amount of the bonus
The contribution is divided into two brackets, which depend on the student’s academic performance. For students who are within the top 15% of their class performance, the amount reaches 85,057 pesos (90 dollars); and for those in the second 15% of best performance in their class, the amount reaches 51,036 pesos (54 dollars). Benefits can be accumulated if there is more than one beneficiary per family, since if a household has two members in the first bracket, and one in the second, the bonus will be 221,150 pesos (235 dollars), which is broken down by the sum of the two students who receive 85,057 pesos and the one who gets 51,036 pesos.

What are the requirements to obtain the School Achievement Bonus
The benefit is intended for students under 24 years old, from 5th grade to 12th grade, who belong to the top 30% of academic performance in their class. The student and their family must belong to the 30% most vulnerable population, according to the Social Household Registry (RSH), as of March 31 of the year immediately prior to the year in which the bonus is paid. Students must have attended primary or secondary educational institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education (Mineduc). All this information is obtained by the Ministry of Social Development and Family through a database, so it is not necessary to apply.
Where the benefit is delivered
The bonus is paid through a bank deposit. The automatic transfer is made on September 14 to the current account in the name of each assigned collector. People who do not have a bank account are activated with the CuentaRUT, BancoEstado’s mass checking account. In that case, the beneficiary must go to a branch of the state bank to activate the account and make the cash withdrawal through an ATM or at a teller of the same financial institution. The bonus is compatible with other transfers and subsidies granted by the State, so the payment could be merged with other transfers of the family group.
