A total of 14 aerial units and several ground crews are working to try to extinguish an uncontrolled forest fire declared this Tuesday, early this afternoon, in the municipality of Tuéjar, in the interior of Valencia. Around 7 p.m., the Generalitat requested the mobilization of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and established emergency situation 2 due to the possible serious impact on the population and non-forest property.

The fire has spread from an area of orchards and cultivated fields to the forest mass of the mountains and has turned towards Benagéber. The greatest risk is that it will penetrate the reservoir area of the latter town and the Turia canyon.
Tuéjar and Benagéber are part of the Alto Turia Biosphere Reserve, a vast territory structured by the middle course of the river, which extends over more than 67,000 hectares of landscapes between the provinces of Valencia and Cuenca.
The reserve was declared by UNESCO in 2019 with the common commitment of the municipalities that make it up (Aras de los Olmos, Benagéber, Casas Bajas, Chelva, Titaguas, Tuéjar, and Santa Cruz de Moya) to conserve the territory, the natural landscape, and promote sustainable development.

The Emergency Coordination Center initially established situation 1 of the Special Forest Fire Plan (PEIF), which is activated when an emergency caused by a forest fire can seriously affect forest property or, mildly, the population and non-forest property. But shortly before 7 p.m., it escalated to situation 2.
The fire was declared around 4:00 p.m. this Tuesday, and according to the Emergency Coordination Center (CCE) of the Generalitat, 14 aerial units are currently working in the area. Four fire trucks and four forest firefighter units; six forest brigades and three units from the provincial fire consortium; volunteers from Chelva and Titaguas, two prevention units, and personnel from the Civil Guard and Police are also trying to extinguish the flames. Additionally, seven ground units with 7 more fire trucks from the provinces of Valencia and Castellón have joined.
