The corner of Pepe Luis Vázquez and Pascual Márquez is one of the busiest in the Real de la Feria de Sevilla, due to its central location, but, above all, because it houses the Cadena SER stand, which has established itself as a social, cultural, political, artistic, sporting, and economic meeting point for the Andalusian capital during this spring festival. In addition to being a benchmark and becoming the daily thermometer of the fair, which is narrated through the programs that Radio Sevilla broadcasts live from there, the SER stand also captures the pulse of the city through the milestones and anniversaries to which it dedicates its space each year. On this occasion, the spotlight has fallen on the newspaper EL PAÍS, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, which it will celebrate next May 4, almost a week after the April Fair ends.
“We are obliged, from ‘Radio Sevilla’, which just turned 100 last year, to dedicate this year to the half-century of the newspaper EL PAÍS and to do so in one of the most emblematic and significant stands of the Seville Fair, which is the Radio Sevilla stand,” explains Antonio Yélamo, director of Cadena SER Andalucía and delegate of Prisa Media in the autonomous community. In these 50 years, the newspaper has witnessed social changes in Spain, including the referendum of February 28, 1980, and the first steps of Andalusian autonomy, whose coverage contributed to consolidating the newspaper in the community; as well as the construction of a modern and socially advanced State and the conquest of social rights, where this region, in many cases, has been at the forefront.
During this time, EL PAÍS has maintained its commitment to Andalusia, and it is this connection with the territory that the SER stand wanted to highlight through a selection of covers from the supplements commemorating the 28-F referendum and other photographs that are part of its decoration. “It is a symbolic way, but at the same time close to the reader and radio listeners, to mark this very important date, such as the 50th anniversary; we want to convey a message of proximity and closeness of the newspaper also to Andalusia,” explains Yélamo.
The first cover of EL PAÍS presides over the stage of the stand, from where the station’s programs are broadcast and where artists and guests such as María del Monte, Cantores de Híspalis, Pitingo, or Beret have started to sing… From the arches peek out the covers of some of EL PAÍS Andalucía’s supplements commemorating 28-F, where the newspaper seeks to delve into social, economic, political, and cultural aspects that shape the reality of the community. The playful and multicolored atmosphere of the Fair is also captured through framed photographs by some of the photojournalists of the Andalusian edition of EL PAÍS, such as Pablo Juliá, José Manuel Pérez Cabo, José Antonio García Cordero, or Alejandro Cordero.

Cadena SER Andalucía’s recognition of the newspaper’s 50th anniversary precedes the celebration of the EL PAÍS Festival on May 1, 2, and 3, three days open to readers and all citizens at Matadero Madrid. The venue will host debates with prominent figures from contemporary culture and thought, as well as meetings with journalists and historical collaborators, concerts, and other recreational activities for the whole family.
The space that the SER stand dedicates to the newspaper EL PAÍS is also another example of the synergy that has been woven between the main media of the Prisa Group throughout this time.
