Two dead after scaffolding collapses at a construction site on a street in Benidorm

Two workers have died after a scaffold collapsed on a construction site in a street in Benidorm, according to sources from the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Alicante and confirmed by the CICU of the province.

The alert for the industrial accident that occurred at number 2 Ibiza Street in the municipality of Benidorm was received at 10:49 AM, and the two workers were trapped among the debris, the Consortium added.

The scaffold is located on tower 2 of the Principado Europa building, 18 stories high, in the Levante area of Benidorm, and emergency services have closed the street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The industrial accident occurred when the work had finished and the scaffold structure was being lifted vertically, and for reasons that are being investigated, it collapsed.

Firefighters have deployed nearly a dozen personnel from the city’s station to the scene with a command and leadership unit, a multi-purpose rescue van, and a ladder truck. Emergency teams continue to work in the area.

A SAMU unit and an SVB unit have been dispatched to the scene. Medical services have confirmed the death of the two workers.
