A 26-year-old worker dies in an accident at the Súria mine (Barcelona)

A 26-year-old worker died this Wednesday morning at the Cabanasses mine in Súria (Barcelona), according to sources from the Mossos d’Esquadra to Europa Press. The responsible company reported that the incident occurred around 11:00, when the worker was in one of the continuous miners and, “supposedly,” a wall collapsed.

After the accident, the emergency protocol was activated and the mine was evacuated, where about 240 people were working. Activity at the rest of the facilities was also interrupted. The Mossos d’Esquadra have opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident.

In March 2023, another work accident killed three geologists, in what was considered one of the most serious in the history of mining in Catalonia. A court in Manresa closed the case after almost three years of investigation, for the three charges of homicide. In December 2025, the judge dismissed the case after determining that the technical reports from the experts did not reveal signs of criminality.
