Journalist Diana Calderón analyzes the challenges ahead for the three leading candidates in the polls competing for the presidency of Colombia on May 31. For the left, with Iván Cepeda, the biggest challenge remains appealing to the undecided liberal and progressive electorate who are not members of the Petrismo movement. For Paloma Valencia, the challenge is to resolve the tension between Uribismo and the center she appeals to. And regarding Abelardo de La Espriella, Calderón says, “he will have to find a more solid political place than just the outsider strategy, as he still has unresolved questions that he will face under the scrutiny of the upcoming debates.”
