A 13-year-old teenager was injured in the leg after being hit by a projectile while participating in a sports activity in the yard of the San José de Calasanz school in Badajoz. The incident, which has caused concern among the educational community and the neighborhood, occurred on Wednesday afternoon during a football training organized by the Municipal Sports Foundation.

According to witnesses, the day was going normally until, almost at the end of the training, a sharp sound was heard that was initially not identified. Moments later, the activity leaders and the children themselves noticed that one of the girls had a wound on her leg. The quick reaction of the center’s staff allowed emergency services to be activated, who were alerted through 091.
The minor was taken to a hospital in the capital of Badajoz. The Ministry of Health and Social Services has confirmed that her health condition is favorable and that she is progressing positively, and they have insisted on the need to preserve the privacy of the girl and her family environment. The acting minister, Sara García Espada, described the case as “delicate” and avoided giving additional details beyond confirming that the minor has been treated in the public health system and that her progress is good.
The Government Delegation in Extremadura has indicated that the investigation is in an initial phase, although it trusts that in the coming hours the circumstances of the incident can be clarified. Delegate José Luis Quintana has indicated that the main line of investigation points to the wound being caused by a projectile, without ruling out any hypothesis at the moment, including that of a stray bullet.
In this regard, investigators are trying to determine whether the impact was direct or if it occurred after a ricochet, a matter that the medical report and the corresponding ballistic analysis will have to clarify. So far, there is no record of previous incidents in the area nor that warnings related to shootings or disturbances were received before the call alerting about the injured minor, registered around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The absence of prior indications has increased uncertainty about the origin of the projectile. Security forces are working to reconstruct the bullet’s trajectory and determine from where the shot could have been fired, if it was, or if it is an element coming from another context.
The incident has had an immediate impact on the operation of the educational center. Early this Thursday, several National Police units remained near the school. The school management has decided to temporarily suspend activities in the yard during the day, including recess, as a precautionary measure.
In a communication sent to families through the Rayuela platform, the school reported the existence of “a serious incident” that occurred during sports activities, emphasizing that the minor is out of danger. In the same message, the management asked for prudence and cooperation from parents, urging them to convey calm to their children while the facts are clarified.
Concern among families is palpable. Many parents have expressed their concern about what happened and have demanded additional security measures around the school. Many have considered not taking their children to the center out of fear, others point to the exposure of the school yard to the outside and suggest the need to reinforce the perimeter to avoid any uncontrolled interaction from outside the facilities.
Authorities insist on the importance of not spreading unverified information that could generate unnecessary alarm.
