TVE and ‘La hora de la 1’ go off air for 20 minutes: “A power outage of an unknown nature”

At 08:09 on Friday morning, TVE partially cut La hora de La 1 and stopped its broadcast while discussing the Andalusian elections to start airing channel promotions and a generic bumper with the public corporation’s logo. Canal 24 Horas, which airs the same program, also went down. About 20 minutes later, the broadcast returned and was explained by presenter Silvia Intxaurrondo at 8:28: “We suffered a power outage of an unknown nature that caused our broadcast to be interrupted.”

The studio lights went out and only the emergency lights remained due to a failure of a light switch that had already caused problems the day before, RTVE explains.

The Basque presenter, leader of the mornings with an 18.8% audience share this season, explained after returning that the program team had managed to get everything running again, without giving much more explanation about the cause: “Thanks to all the RTVE colleagues who made La hora de La 1 recover the broadcast in record time. You can’t imagine the coordination we witnessed in this studio, in the production controls, and in all the buildings involved at Prado del Rey. Thank you, colleagues,” she thanked, making a heart gesture with her hands, before returning to her political discussion.
