A 25-year-old man died this Sunday by drowning in the Segre river, near the town of Camarasa (Lleida), according to information from the Bombers de la Generalitat. This fatal incident adds to Saturday’s, when another young man, in that case 21 years old, also died by drowning after jumping into a canal in the Ebro Delta, as it passes through Amposta (Montsià)

This Sunday in Camarasa, a witness who was in the Congost del Mu area, near the old Campament de la Canadenca, reported that two people had jumped into the water from some rocks. It was 2:15 PM when emergency services were activated.
The Bombers de la Generalitat deployed a large search operation to locate the man, who could not be found until two hours later. The body, already lifeless and trapped among some branches, was about fifty meters from where he was last seen.
Emergency services personnel removed the victim from the water and performed resuscitation maneuvers, without success.

The Medical Emergency Service (SEM) also attended to and assessed the companion of the deceased man, who got out of the water by his own means and ultimately did not have to be transferred to any hospital.
To carry out the rescue, firefighters activated eleven ground units, a helicopter with GRAE (Special Actions Group) personnel, diving unit personnel, and a boat. In addition, they requested the Camarasa Hydroelectric Power Plant to stop the turbines with the aim of lowering the river’s flow and facilitating search efforts.
